Frequently asked questions

How does Rakah Counter count my rakahs?

The app detects each sujood (prostration) using either the front camera or the proximity sensor on your iPhone. Two sujoods within a short window count as one rak'ah. You can switch detection modes in Settings.

Why does the app ask for camera permission?

Camera Mode uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to detect when your face moves close to the camera (sujood). No images or video are recorded, stored, or transmitted. The camera feed never leaves your device. If you'd rather not grant camera access, switch to Sensor Mode in Settings.

The count is sometimes off — what can I do?

You can adjust the count manually using the + and − buttons during prayer. If you're using Camera Mode, ensure good lighting and place the phone below your chin with the screen facing up. If you're using Sensor Mode, calibration before salah improves accuracy.

How do I switch detection modes?

Tap the gear icon on the home screen to open Settings. Under "Detection Method", choose Camera Mode or Sensor Mode. You can switch any time, but not during an active prayer.

Where do prayer times come from?

Prayer times are calculated on your device using your location and your chosen calculation method (ISNA, Muslim World League, Umm al-Qura, and others). Choose your method and madhab (Shafi'i / Hanafi) under the prayer times settings.

Why are prayer times showing Makkah instead of my city?

This means location access hasn't been granted yet. Tap "Allow Location" on the prayer times card and approve the permission. Until then, Makkah is shown as a fallback.

Does the app work without an internet connection?

Yes. Rakah Counter works fully offline — counting, prayer time calculation, everything. No internet connection required.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Everything stays on your iPhone. There are no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs. Read the full privacy policy →

How do I delete my data?

Delete the app from your iPhone. All settings and counts are stored locally and removed with the app — there is nothing on a server to delete.
